This specimen was lot 23874 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hamburg. Free City Taler 1611, MS63 NGC, valued at 32 Schillings. Title of Emperor Rudolph II is found in the legend. Incredible multi-colored toning, and as choice for this type as one could hope for." This type was struck 1608-12. It is technically a 32 schilling piece but is universally classed as a thaler. The city of Hamburg issued coins almost continuously until the end of World War One and the mint there is still in operation, striking coins for the Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
