Künker sale 263, lot 174

This specimen was lot 174 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €550 (about US$711 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Hamburg, STADT Taler 1553 (geprägt 1553-1562). Münzmeister Johann von Collen. Gaed. 287 (siehe Band III). RR Kl. Randfehler, sehr schön. (Germany, city of Hamburg, thaler of 1553 (struck 1553-62), mintmaster Johann van Collen, edge bumps, very fine.)"

Davenport notes this type of 1553 as scarce. It, along with Dav-9216 and -9217, were struck until 1562 with a frozen date. Double and quadruple thalers exist.
