Haldenstein 1690 2/3 thaler KM-70
This specimen was lot 35165 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland: Haldenstein. Canton 2/3 Taler 1690 AU58 NGC, Relatively scarce in any grade, let alone approaching Mint State designations, this conditionally challenging example exhibits appreciable detail softened only a touch by light circulation, enlivened by soft yet notable cobalt tones. As the sole finest certified example, we expect this 2/3 Taler to be of significant interest to type collectors and specialists of this short-lived series. Sold with a 19th-century handwritten flip." Two different gulden (= 2/3 thaler) were issued 1690-92; this one and one (KM-71) with the reverse arms supported by a double headed eagle. Both are scarce.
