This specimen was lot 72535 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "HAITI. 5 Centimes, 1904. Scovill (Waterbury) Mint. PCGS MS-65. Tied with one other example for finest known in the PCGS population report. Original surfaces are bathed in a rich satiny luminescence that washes over boldly struck design elements. The ideal piece for numismatists who seek an example of this two year type." This type was struck in Connecticut in 1904 only but was superseded by a five centimes with the portrait of the president (KM 53). The SCWC prices the two types about the same. Wikipedia comments, "Pierre Nord Alexis (2 August 1820 – 1 May 1910) was President of Haiti from 17 December 1902 to 2 December 1908. At the age of 82, he became President...by leading troops loyal to him into the country's Chamber of Deputies. Alexis managed to hold on to power for the next six years, though his regime was plagued by rebellion."

Recorded mintage: unknown. Proofs exist.

Specification: copper-nickel.
