Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74005

This specimen was lot 74005 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUINEA. 10 Francs, 1959. NGC MS-66. A beautiful and impressive specimen, delivering a soft brassy brilliance and much appeal." This one year type was accompanied by five and twenty-five francs, all bearing the bust of Big Man Ahmed Sekou Toure. Wikipedia comments,

"Ahmed Sékou Touré (January 9, 1922 – March 26, 1984) was a Guinean political leader and African statesman who became the first president of Guinea, serving from 1958 until his death in 1984."

Circulating coinage from this coutry is sparse, as the locals generally use the CFA franc.
