This specimen was lot 23427 in Heritage sale 61343 (Dallas, TX, November 2023), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "Guatemala. Republic 50 Centavos 1963 MS66 PCGS. Approaching technical perfection, this Gem specimen absolutely blazes with cartwheel luster." The specimen shown is from a type struck in 1962-63. The flower depicted is a white nun ("monja blanca") orchid. Fifty centavos coins have not been popular in Guatemala, the half quetzal note being preferred. This type was extensively saved and is common today in all grades.
Recorded mintage: 350,000 including a 1963/2 overdate.
