This specimen was lot 13218 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. Peso, 1859-R. NGC VF-25. RARE." This type, with the bust of President Rafael Carrera, was struck 1859 only with and without an "R" on the reverse. The "R" is awarded a substantial premium by the SCWC. Similar silver pesos were struck 1862-71.
