Guatemala 1836-NG BA 8 reales
This specimen was lot 2122 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $517. The catalog description[1] noted, "Central American Republic. 8 Reales, 1836-NG BA NGC AU55. Radiant sun rising above mountain range. Reverse: Tree. NGC graded AU-55. From the Aurora Family Collection." This type was struck in Guatemala 1824-47 and in Costa Rica in 1831. It is not rare except in the choice condition shown here. Assayers M and BA are noted for the date. The type is listed under the Central American Republic. This federation was an attempt to unite all the former Spanish provinces of Central America into one country but collapsed amid recrimination and civil war.
