This specimen was lot 7407 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. Silver Medallic Proclamation Real, 1822. Augustin I Iturbide. NGC VF-25. Wholesome and totally original, this VF-25 graded silver proclamation medal features the bust of Iturbide facing left on the obverse, while the reverse has the partial arms of Guatemala with a four line inscription inside wreath. Obviously used as money, this piece offers more charm than most." The second specimen was lot 1271 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[2] noted, "GUATEMALA (under Mexican Empire), struck in Mexico City, 1R-sized proclamation medal, Agustín I Iturbide, 1822, Quezaltenango. Obverse with bust of Iturbide in center inside legend AGUSTIN 1• EMPERAD • DE MEXICO•; reverse with PROCLAMADO EN QUESALT• A• DE 1822• around oval arms (quetzal bird flying over two mountains) inside laurel and palm branches. Unevenly struck AU- (also slightly off-center) with very light toning over muted luster."
