This specimen was lot 33245 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "Greece. John Kapodistrias 5 Lepta 1830 AU55 Brown NGC. The scarcer pearl circle variety. Overall a fine example of this very scarce one-year type, having a warm brown tone with some reddish tinges. From the Engelen Collection of World Coinage." After wresting her independence from the Turks, Greece was established as a republic under John Capodistrias. This regime lasted until 1831. Several types of five lepta were issued during that bried period. This one, issued 1831 only, has no circle around the phoenix.
