This specimen was lot 23806 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1983. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Tied for finest certified of the date with 20 other examples on the NGC population report. A lovely example of the type exhibiting a sharp crisp strike with hard mirrored fields and frosted devices. Free of tone, haze or fog. From the Collection of Richard Jewell." This type was struck 1974-84 for sale to collectors and did not circulate altho some show signs of mishandling.

Recorded mintage: 21,000 proofs.

Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, 0.2355 troy oz AGW.
