This specimen was lot 30080 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Victoria gold 1/2 Sovereign 1864 MS63 NGC. Die #17. Well-defined and donning beautiful scarlet patination, tied for the highest grade at NGC with one other representative. Ex. RichLyn Collection (Heritage Auction #3045, January 2016, Lot 33961). From the Ezen Collection." This type was struck in substantial quantities 1838-85 yet choice specimens are few. All issues of 1864 bear a die number.

Recorded mintage: 1,758,000, a slightly better date.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold.
