This specimen was lot 3868 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $505.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1857. NGC AU-58." This type was struck 1838-72 in large quantities with a slightly modified obverse continuing until 1874. Despite the large mintages, the type is scarce in nice condition.
Recorded mintage: 4,496,000.
