Sincona sale 86, lot 1614

This specimen was lot 1614 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$673 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Victoria, 1837-1901. Half Sovereign 1844, London. First young head. NGC AU58."

This subtype was struck 1838-63, 1880-85. This date is fairly common. A similar half sovereign was struck with die numbers 1863-80 (KM 735.2).

Recorded mintage: 1,127,000.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 4.00 g.
