This specimen was lot 74812 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1841. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-65. A high grade, early example of the Young Head type. Lustrous surfaces exhibit a thin wash of champagne throughout and hints of icy blue in the protected peripheries. A sharp and attractive example of the type." This type was struck 1838-66 in large quantities with a slightly modified obverse continuing until 1887.
Recorded mintage: 875,100, a scarce date.
