This specimen was lot 24088 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $5,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "William IV gold Sovereign 1836, MS64 NGC, a beauty having a really bold strike, satiny luster, only tiny abrasions, and lovely light yellow gold color. High end for the "64" grade. Rare in this condition!" This type is listed for 1831-37 and is expensive despite the substantial mintage.

Recorded mintage: 1,714,000.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.
