This specimen was lot 2247 in Goldberg sale 110 (Los Angeles, June 2019), where it sold for $3,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Copper Proof Farthing, 1730. George II. Bronze finish. Obverse: Laureate bust of king left GEORGIVS II REX. Reverse: Britannia seated left. Edge plain. Beautiful near flawless mirror fields on this rare dark chocolate Proof. NGC graded Proof 66 Brown." This type was struck 1730-39. The mint did not produce near enough small change for the industrial boom of the eighteenth century, leading to a proliferation of private tokens. The situation would not be rectified until the reform of 1817.
