Sincona sale 75, lot 195

This specimen was lot 195 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$4,855 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Grossbritannien | Königreich. George I. 1714-1727. Guinea 1721, London. Fourth laureate head. NGC VF30. Feine Goldtönung. (Nice gold toning.)"

This type was struck 1716-23 with no symbol below the bust. There is a variety (KM 546.2) with an elephant below the bust, indicating the use of African gold, which is very rare.

Specification: 8.35 g, 0.917 fine gold, .246 troy oz AGW, this specimen 8.30 g.
