Great Britain 1656 shilling
This specimen was lot 71117 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1656. London Mint; mm: sun. Commonwealth. PCGS AU-55. Obverse: Two coats-of-arms (English & Irish); XII (mark of value) above; Reverse: Coat-of-arms (English) within wreath. Quite original and pleasing, this lightly handled example stands as a wholesome example emanating from a volatile period in English history." This type was struck 1651-57 and is rather expensive in the catalog altho this example realized only a third of the catalog value.
