This specimen was lot 44517 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mark, 2001-F. Stuttgart Mint. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. A brilliant and attractive Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." This commemorative was struck for the retirement of the mark. Another mark, KM 110, was struck in copper-nickel for collectors. To this writer's knowledge, Germany is the only country in Europe still operating branch mints: A - Berlin; D - Munich; F - Stuttgart; G - Karlsruhe and J - Hamburg.
Recorded mintage: 200,000 proofs.
Specification: 12 g, 0.999 fine gold, 23.5 mm diameter.
