Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 46800

This specimen was lot 46800 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Empire. 20 Pfennig, 1874-A. Berlin Mint. Wilhelm I. PCGS MS-65. From the Dr. Michael Vale Collection." This type was struck 1873-77 as part of the monetary reform which accompanied unification. Its small size made it unpopular and it was later replaced by a copper-nickel coin.

Recorded mintage: 8,829,886, a common date.

Specifications: 1.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 16 mm diameter, reeded edge.
