Georgia 2006 50 tetri
Georgia, a country in the Caucasus mountains, had enjoyed a long period of independence before being gradually conquered by the Tsars of Russia in the nineteenth century. She declared independence again in the aftermath of World War One, a situation that was unacceptable to her most famous native son, Josef Stalin, and Georgia was reconquered in 1921. After the collapse of communism, Georgia once again declared independence in 1991 but immediately encountered her own difficulties with internal minorities, the Abkhazi and the Ossetians. The resulting civil war destroyed the value of the kuponi, originally equal to the ruble, and it was replaced with the lari in 1995. This type was struck for circulation in Georgia in 2006. As of August 2023, US$1 = 2.61 lari, making this coin worth about US$0.19. The script shown on the coin is used nowhere else.
