Georgia 1828 abazi
This specimen was lot 278 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 38,000 CHF (about US$51,173 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Abaz 1828, St. Petersburg Mint. Proof. Mintage for Georgia. Silver-Pattern Abaz. Excessively rare. 25 roubles according to Petrov. 50 roubles according to Ilyin. NGC PF62. Magnificent specimen with beautiful patina. From 'Dubletten russischer Museen', auction A. Hess Nachf. 210, Frankfurt a. M., April 1932, lot 2239. This specimen belongs to the group of the rarest type coins of the XIX century."
The circulation type was struck 1804-31. This is an unlisted date and is probably a pattern or piedfort. The regular issue has assayer's initials and lacks the denticled rim.
