Goldberg sale 109, lot 2663
Genoa G109-2663r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2663 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States: Genoa. 10 Soldi, 1814. John the Baptist standing. Lightly toned and choice. NGC graded MS-65." Genoa was occupied by Napoleon in 1798 and made into the puppet Ligurian Republic. Genoa recovered its independence only briefly in 1814; in 1815 it was annexed by the kingdom of Sardinia and is now part of Italy. This type is fairly common in worn condition. A variety exists with the obverse legend spelled "RESPUBLICA JANUENSIS" which does not seem to obtain a premium.

Recorded mintage: 3,200,000.

Specification: 2.10 g, .889 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM-286; Pagani-30a, Mont-108, Gig-1.
