Goldberg sale 87, lot 3297
Genoa G87-3297r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3297 in Goldberg sale 87 (Los Angeles, September 2015), where it sold for $423. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States: Genoa. Lira, 1745. Crowned and supported crest. Lustrous. NGC graded MS-61." Genoa was occupied by Napoleon in 1798 and made into the puppet Ligurian Republic. Genoa never recovered her independence; in 1815 she was annexed by the kingdom of Sardinia and is now part of Italy. This type, issued 1745-49, is likely much rarer than the catalog indicates.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.16 g, .889 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-211; CNI-2.
