Fukien (Fujian) Province lies on the south east coast of China. The Foochow Mint operated through the Manchu dynasty, and an additional mint was built for struck coinage in 1896. Several other mints have been in operation since that time. The specimen shown was lot 60157 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $2689. The catalog description[1] noted, “CHINA. Fukien. Cash, ND (ca. 1909-11). 寶福局宣統通寶機製方孔一文。NGC MS-65. Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection.”
