Friesland 1594 daalder Dav-8815
This specimen was lot 911 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRIESLAND: United Netherlands, AR lion daalder, 1594/1591, facing knight with head right behind arms of Friesland with "MO NO ORD - FRIS VA HOL - 15 - 94" around // rampant lion advancing left within beaded circle with CONFIDENS+DNO+NON+MOVETVR around, lightly toned, somewhat crude flan, lion mintmark, Choice VF." This is the first early type lion daalder we have seen from this province. Later daalders from the seventeenth century (Dav-4853) had the date at the top of the reverse.
