Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73150

This specimen was lot 73150 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Silver 2 Francs Piefort, 1979. Paris Mint. NGC PROOF-69. An attractive offering with satin like surfaces and a lovely beach scene from the South Pacific of French Polynesia on the reverse." This type was struck for Tahiti and her neighbors, known as French Polynesia, starting in 1973. The silver pieforts were strictly for collectors.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000 for circulation plus 130 aluminum pieforts plus 250 silver pieforts, plus 95 in gold.

Specification: 2.30 g, aluminum, 27 mm diameter.
