French Indochina 1940 cent

This specimen was lot 74969 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Cent, 1940. Hanoi Mint. PCGS MS-63." This zinc cent was struck for use in French Indochina while the colony was under Japanese occupation. This variety has twelve petals in the rosette on the Phrygian cap and seems to have been locally made. It is scarce and, like most zinc coins, rare in nice condition.
