This specimen was lot 45937 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Piastre, 1904-A. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-61." This piastre is one of a type issued for French Indo-China during 1895-1928. Piastres issued 1895 and before were 27.21 grams and are quite a bit scarcer. The coin was intended to compete with various trade dollars from the Straits Settlements, India, Mexico and the United States.
Recorded mintage: 5,751,000, a common date.
