This specimen was lot 73728 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. 20 Centimes, 1902-A. Paris Mint. PCGS AU-55. Displaying a brilliant and alluring luster, this charming minor gives wonderful details and just a minuscule smattering of rub across the surfaces." This type was struck 1898-1903, 1908-16 and this is a fairly common date. French Indochina was occupied by the Japanese in 1940. French attempts to reoccupy the area after World War Two were challenged by Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh, leading to French defeat and withdrawal in 1954. The colony is now divided into Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
