Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74474

This specimen was lot 74474 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDO-CHINA. 20 Centimes, 1893-A. Paris Mint. PCGS AU-58. A lightly toned and lightly circulated minor with a great, wholesome nature." This twenty cent piece is one of a type issued for French Indo-China during 1885-95. The type was reduced to 5.4 grams in 1895 and issued in that form until 1898, when the fineness was reduced to 0.835.

Recorded mintage: 200,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 5.443 g, 0.900 fine silver, .157 troy oz ASW, designed by Barré.
