This specimen was lot 24755 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $2,467.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frankfurt. Free City gold Ducat 1796, MS63 NGC. A wonderful example of this Contribution issue, prooflike with light handling." This one year type is occasionally available. It was issued to pay a ransom extorted by a French occupying army. It is accompanied by a contribution thaler (Dav-2229).
