Sincona sale 4, lot 4357

This specimen was lot 4357 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Frankfurt, Stadt Goldgulden 1508. Titel Maximilian I. Stehender Johannes der Täufer mit Lamm von vorn, zwischen seinen Füssen Wappen. Rv. Reichsapfel im runden Dreipass mit Spitzen. Kl. Schrötlingsr. am Rd. Gutes sehr schön-sehr schön. (City of Frankfurt, goldgulden of 1508, in the name of Maximilian I. Obverse: standing St. John the Baptist with lamb; reverse: imperial orb in trilobe flower, planchet crack, very fine)."

Frankfurt was an imperial free city that was the site of the diet of the Holy Roman Empire. It is now in Hesse.
