France 2010 500 euro KM-1642
This specimen was lot 32819 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $540. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 500 Euro 2010 MS66 PCGS. Golden, fully mirror-like fields catch beams of light amongst soft, frosted devices. Noted by PCGS as Semeuse Brillant ("Lustrous Sower")." The treaty which established the euro in 1999 gave specifications for the one cent thru two euro coins which are legal tender throughout the European Union. Higher denominations are not legal tender and each country is free to issue commemoratives as it sees fit, a right the Paris mint has ruthlessly exploited for France.
Recorded mintage: 25,000.
Specification: 12 g, 0.999 fine gold, 31 mm diameter, AGW 0.3854 oz.
