France 1979 5 centimes
This specimen is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1962-2001. Some of the later dates, such as 1989 and 1999-2001, are only available from FDC sets. This type was accompanied by a similar ten, twenty and fifty centimes (until 1964). The second specimen was lot 46450 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Gold 5 Centimes Piefort, 1979. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo."
Recorded mintage: 180,040,511 plus 300 in gold.
Specification: 2 g, aluminum-bronze, 17 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Henri Lagriffoul (1907-81) and Adrien Dieudonné (1912-82). The gold version is 8.7 g, 0.920 fine gold.
