France 1947 10 francs rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint 1945-49 under the under the provisional Free French government. The inflation triggered by the devastation wreaked by World War Two continued thru the 1950's, forcing the regime to strike coins in ever higher denominations. In 1947, the head was modified slightly and struck in that form until 1949, when it was superseded by the aluminum bronze Giraud type. This date comes only with the short leaf variety in the laurel leaves on Marianne's head.

Recorded mintage: 41,627,000, some the short leaf variety, others the small head variety (shown here).

Specification: 7 g, copper-nickel, 26 mm diameter, designed by Pierre Turin (1891-1968).

Catalog reference: short leaf variety: F.361A/4, KM 908.1; small head variety: F.362/1, KM 909.1.
