The specimen shown is a five centimes of a type struck under the Third Republic of France 1898-1921. All are Paris mint issues altho some of the 1916's were struck on planchets made in Madrid; these are marked with a star. Altho superseded by a copper-nickel type in 1917, bronze five centimes were not discontinued until 1921.
Recorded mintage: 8,010,587, plus 51,321,082 of the copper-nickel type.
Specification: 5 g, bronze, 25 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Daniel-Dupuis.
