France 1914 10 centimes KM-866
This specimen was lot 443 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $3,025. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE, Troisième République. 1870-1940. NI 10 Centimes. Paris mint; différents: cornucopia and torch. Henri-Auguste Patey, engraver general. Régie des Monnaies, directors. Dated 1914. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Gem brilliant uncirculated. Extremely rare type struck in only pure, magnetic nickel. One of the rarest 20th century French coins." Only a few thousand of these coins were struck in 1914 and 1916. In 1917, it was converted into copper-nickel and serious production began. This specimen sold for less than the catalog value.
