France 1902 10 centimes
The first specimen was part of lot 22413 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $69. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Republic Pair of Certified Assorted bronze Centimes Issues NGC, 1) Republic 10 Centimes 1902 MS65 Brown NGC, Paris mint; 2) Republic 5 Centimes 1900 MS65 Red NGC, Paris mint, KM 842." The specimen shown is a ten centimes of a type struck under the Third Republic of France 1898-1921. All are Paris mint issues. There are 31 dates in the series, some expensive but only the 1905 is rare. The 1902 is a better date compared to the common issues of the War but is not scarce. The total production for the series is about 122 million. The design was also used on bronze one, two and five centimes of the Belle Epoque. All the bronze ten centimes pieces were demonetized in 1935.
Recorded mintage: 3,800,000, a fairly common date.
Specification: 10 g, bronze, 30 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1849-99).
