Sincona sale 13, lot 2462

This specimen was lot 2462 in Sincona sale 13 (Zürich, October 2013), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$155 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH 50 Centimes 1864. Strassburg Vorzüglich-FDC (France, fifty centimes of 1864, Strasbourg mint, extremely fine to uncirculated)."

This type, struck 1864-69, represented a reduction in fineness from the previous type of 1853-63, which was 0.900 fine. This date is common.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, plain edge, this specimen 2.47 g.
