France 1825-A 1/2 franc

This dime-sized coin was struck at Paris under the régime of king Charles X (1824-30). It is the first date of a type struck 1825-30. All half francs of this reign are of this type, which is common. It was demonetized in 1869.

The catalog[1] notes 54 dates for the type, some very rare. This date is rare, being priced almost five times higher than the commonest date (1829A). Le Franc VIII reports six specimens known.

Recorded mintage: 8,640[1], 11,000[2].

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, plain edge. Designed by Auguste-François Michaut, 1786-1879.
