This twentieth écu au vielle buste de Louis XV, the equivalent of a half dime, was struck at the Paris mint in 1779 during the reign of Louis XVI of France. It was supposedly struck to finance a proposed Spanish invasion of Britain, and when that never came off, was issued to the general populace. Extensively saved, it is today fairly common. Droulers[1] lists this date as common.

Recorded mintage: 176,070.

Specification: 1.47 g, 0.917 fine silver, reeded edge, 17 mm diameter.
