This specimen was lot 99122 in Heritage sale 61253 (Dallas, January 2022), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1769-(cow) UNC Details (Obverse Repaired) NGC, Pau mint. Crisp and fully uncirculated, coupling a meticulous strike with shimmering luster that ignites across the fields when turned in direct light. Astoundingly brilliant and nearly pristine to the reverse, while the obverse displays superficial hairlines and some smoothing over the King's bust." The type was struck 1742-73 and this mint is actually fairly common altho the 1769 is a rare date. Pau, in the Pyrenees, processed much gold bullion coming in from Spain.

Recorded mintage: 2,017[2], a rare date of a common mint.

Specification: 8.158 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edger, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Duplessy 1643, Fr-464, Dr/4 № 801a, Dr/2 № 543a, KM 514.
