France 1634-A ecu d'or
This specimen was lot 1297 in Sedwick sale 34 (Winter Park, FL, November 2023), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "France (Paris mint), gold louis d'or, Louis XIII, 1634-A. Sharp UNC with bright luster and nice toning, multi-directional die-polish lines (raised) on reverse, small arcuate void at top of obverse (as made), a few light marks but nothing unusual, rare grade for this scarce type." This type was struck at the Paris mint 1610-17 and 1623-43. These coins were usually struck with the hammer and were supposed to be phased out with the introduction of milled coinage in 1640 but écus d'or are known dated as late as 1654.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
