The specimen shown is a demi-franc of Henry IV of France (r. 1589-1610) struck by the hammer at the Toulouse mint (mintmark "M" divides the date) in 1596-1610. Each mint seems to have used a slightly different bust of the king. Sombart reports two known of this date.

Recorded mintage: est. 49,887.

Specification: 7.09 g, 0.833 fine silver.
