France 1558-C teston
This specimen was lot 24024 in Heritage sale 61496 (Dallas, TX, April 2025), where it sold for $750. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Rare Henri II Teston Henri II Teston 1558-C AU53 NGC, Caen mint. 1st Type. Featured here is a rare and absolutely scar[c]e 16th [century] piece, boasting the challenging Caen mint. According to Gadoury, this level of rarity indicates there are only 1 or 2 examples of the type. Despite the centuries this relic has traveled, it is presented here in just one grade tier below Mint State, awash in a pewter-grey toning and possessing admirable clarity in its devices. No doubt, this is a great opportunity for French-type collectors."
Recorded mintage: est. 9,868, with none reported by Sombart[2].
Specification: 9.59 g, .899 fine silver, this specimen 9.57 g.
