France 1554-H teston

This specimen was lot 46380 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Teston, 1554-H. La Rochelle Mint. Henry II. PCGS AU-55. Singular example graded by PCGS. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This teston à la tête nue was struck 1551-62 in the millions but few remain. Sombart notes eleven examples of this date, making it the second most common after the 1554-M. The most common date is the 1560-D, with 44 examples reported.
Recorded mintage: 39,594[2] including a few demi-testons.
