This type is a pattern struck at the Paris mint while plans were made to reintroduce the five franc écu, formerly issued in silver. This type is dated "18--" but is recorded in Guilloteau as being struck in 1930 probably using an old hub taken from storage. In the event, this large size coin ended up being a 24 mm diameter coin (see KM 887). This was a mistake on the part of the government, as the new coin was swiftly rejected.
Recorded mintage: unknown. Proofs exist in brass-plated steel, silver and gold.
Specification: nickel, 37 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: VG-5261.
