France (1417) blanc guenar
This specimen was lot 70436 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Blanc Guenar, ND (1380-1422). Tournai Mint. Charles VI. NGC MS-63. A generally well-struck coin with just a few faint areas of weakness, with light metallic toning." This type was issued from numerous mints throughout Charles' long reign. Six emissions occurred, with gradually decreasing weight and fineness, but all had a face value of ten deniers tournois. This is from the fifth emission of May 1417, marked by a dot between the two upper lilies on the obverse shield.

Specification: first emission (March 1385): 3.26 g, 0.479 fine silver. Fifth emission (shown here): 3.06 g, 0.319 fine silver.
